Im moving to the new yard in a couple of weeks and Im hoping to be able to get 3-6 rubber mats by then to help with costs and cleanliness etc.....
All the time I have had my mare she has lived out 24/7 but come in the night or two before a show etc.. She isnt particulary messy but has the potential to be as she does box walk until settled.
I have been dictated to by previous yards to use shavings but now Im in a position to choose Im just wondering if anyone out there can give me an idea as to which bedding is best for you where you get it from and costs etc...
There just seems like there are so many options to choose from so personal recommendations are needed. Or what not to get is alway good too!
Im not particulary a fan of the wood pellets as my friend uses them and they stick to her rugs and generally makes a mess. So Im not convinced they will be suitable for me?!

Hi Steph - think it is what is best for your horse really - something that isn't duty and that they cannot eat ! Good straw is ok as long as they don't start munching on it! Shaving are good but can be dusty if you are not careful. I use paper which is non dusty and they can't eat it although it can be a bit messy as it tends to blow everywhere !! Cheapest option for me though. There are so many to choose from, I would shop around a little x

Both of mine are on straw - cheap and cheerful, and I find it makes the nicest bed, I also find it easier to muck out than shavings.

Jay (15hh arab) has rubber mats under hers, I still use a full bed tho, but it is slgihtly thinnner than I would have without mats, so saves a little on bedding and makes mucking out quicker as there's less to shift around! She can sometimes be a bit fidgety when in, so I have found it is best with her to do a full muck out daily. I am anal about my beds, like them really clean!!

Tangle (11.2hh Welsh) has rubber mats under the front half, but the back where her bed is, is on concrete. She is really really really tidy, so I semi-deep litter her, only clearing the wet out every few weeks.

When I first got Jay she was on aubiose/easibed type poducts. I did like these - but they got expensive and harder to get hold of easily, so I switched to shavings for a while, but as neither of mine have dust allergies it wasn't long before I got fed up of that and moved her onto my trusty old fave, straw! Shavings mixed half and half with aubiose works pretty nicely too, and is a bit cheaper than just aubiose on it's own.

Millymops - Its definatly easi! I mucked her out yesturday and it only took 10 mins the chips fall thought the fork so much easier and it is very absorbant. I think Im a fan already. I only needed 3 bales for a good bed on full rubber too so I already have 3 spare.
Fluffy - Denes country stores in liphook delivered mine. Good job as they are so heavey! Hope you get better soon?! Its miserable not being able to do stuff you normally can?!
