Horse Riding Jackets

The word jacket comes from the French word jaquette. The term comes from the Middle French noun jaquet, which refers to a small or lightweight tunic. The first specifically designed riding jackets were heavy wool affairs similar to today’s hunt coat. These were found to be too bulky and warm for dressage and pleasure riding and so the modern riding jackets started to evolve using modern materials and designs influenced by the fashion industry. There is now available a range of coats, dressage and hacking jackets available that are technically designed, cut and manufactured for use in the competition arena, general riding, in the yard or for just looking good!
